Submitted by Liz M. There are many terms for projects that are partially completed: Works in Progress (WIPs), Unfinished Objects (UFO), Projects in Grocery Bags (PIGs) and others. If you have been quilting for awhile, you may have accumulated a group of projects or patterns that need some work to finish them up. I have been quilting for over 40 years (wow!) and have quite a collection. Most of my WIPs are completed tops that simply need to be layered and quilted. They have not been finished for a few reasons: my piecing skills surpass my quilting skills, I enjoy piecing and starting new projects!Read More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. I just recently inherited my mother’s “Quiltfolk” magazine subscription with all of her past issues and have been enjoying making my way through each one.  Then a month or so ago, I got a surprise in my email box.  The folks at the magazine put out a bonus digital version called “Quiltfolk Explorer”; and this exploration took them to London, England.   It has been a joy to read; and among the articles in this mini-magazine, there was a story about Kaffe Fassett and another one about those beautiful Liberty of London fabrics. One story especially caught my eye.  It was anRead More →

Submitted by Candy Fullaway (After reading this post, you’ll understand why it made perfect sense to ask Candy to be our guest blogger this week.  She is a member of MPS and a past Chair of the guild.  She and her daughter operate Mother on a Broomstick Designs.  You can see what they’re up to by clicking their logo below.  Remember, click any other image for a larger view) I love fall. The turning leaves, the smells, apples, anything pumpkin, cozy sweaters, and, of course, Halloween. If you’ve met me, this is not news. Have you bought your Halloween candy, eaten it, bought more andRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McDonnell In an effort to keep my mind engaged in something other than boring exercises, I usually listen to podcasts while I’m at the gym.  The Craft Industry Alliance podcast is one among my several subscriptions.  It’s hosted by Abby Glassenberg.  You may know her under her old podcast name, “While She Naps”.  In her podcasts, Abby interviews artists and crafters in several different genres, and many times she will talk with someone involved in the quilting world. A couple of weeks ago, Abby talked to author, Teresa Duryea Wong, who has written several quilt and fabric related books.  The one thatRead More →

Submitted by Naomi Macioce (Naomi is a new member to MPS and the most recent addition to our blogging team.) I recently attended an exhibit entitled “Defining Moments: Stitched Perspectives on Becoming a Woman”, by Carol Larson and Marion Coleman. This exhibit was in the beautiful gallery space of Visions Art Museum of Contemporary Quilts and Textiles, in San Diego, CA, from July 20 –October 6, 2019. In this exhibit two close friends, tall women, and textile artists present quilts in tandem, representing many unique social, cultural, and personal factors that impacted their lives such as: family life, school years, transition into womanhood, and intimateRead More →
