As you may have heard, we have some truly exciting news to share: the Metropolitan Patchwork Society (MPS) is turning 25 this year! We can hardly believe it.  A quarter of a century filled with vibrant fabrics, intricate patterns, and a whole lot of creativity. The Columbia Gorge Museum, which is located in Stevenson, Washington, is hosting a new exhibition, “Ms. Molly’s Voice: Family and Freedom Spoken in Fabric.” This remarkable showcase highlights the life and legacy of Ms. Molly, an enslaved woman whose extraordinary quilting talents documented her life, communicated with her community and the Underground Railroad, and expressed her unwavering love and commitment to her family. The exhibition comes to us through the dedication of Ms. Molly’s third great grandson, Jim Tharpe. To celebrate this special event, we’ve been invited to attend the opening night on June 1, 2024, at 6:00 PM. Mr. Tharpe will be sharing theRead More →

Against the backdrop of nature’s splendor, attendees embarked on a journey of quilting exploration, where stitches transformed into stories, and fabric became a canvas for artistic expression. The tranquil ambiance of the retreat center provided the perfect setting for a weekend of quilting immersion. Surrounded by lush greenery, participants found themselves transported to a realm where time seemed to slow down, allowing for uninterrupted focus on their craft. Throughout the retreat,Read More →

We are so proud of MPS member, Cydney!  She received a blue ribbon for her quilt “All Things Christmas” at the Clark County Quiltfest Northwest held the first weekend in April of 2024.  Here’s the backstory: Cydney and her friend and MPS member, Heather, decided to challenge themselves by making a quilt from the book “Vintage Christmas” by Lori Holt of the Bee In My Bonnet Company.  They each made forty-two 6″ blocks of their own choosing from this very fun book. It took them awhile to finish their quilts, but when they did, they had two beautiful but distinctly different vintage quilts. Although sheRead More →
