Submitted by Liz M. The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is held the second Saturday of July each year. This year, July 11, marked the 45th anniversary of the show. Due to COVID-19 cancellations, the show used the internet and social media to hold the show virtually. A virtual show is not the same as an in-person show but the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and The Stitchin’ Post teams put a lot of work into sharing quilts and information with quilters around the world. During the week prior to the show, 12 quilts were shared each day and two demonstrations were posted on The Stitchin’ PostRead More →

Submitted by Rosalie Movius. Rosalie is the Program Chair for MPS and an occasional Guest blogger.  She came up with this timely idea that I think we’d all enjoy. Thanks Rosalie! Do you need a road trip to shake out the blahs? How about a road trip to the Tualatin Valley Quilt Barn Trail? This was a project of Westside Quilters. “Tour the trail of quilt blocks through rural areas of Oregon’s Tualatin Valley and see dozens of lovely old barns, historic granges, wineries and more. This self-guided tour celebrates both agricultural and quilting heritage, and each block illustrates the connection each family has toRead More →

Submitted by Naomi Macioce When my daughter was in her twenties, Amanda, a very close childhood friend of hers became pregnant, a very big first for us. She had been in our lives since they were both in first grade, with the many play dates, sleep – over’s, and multiple craft and cooking sessions at our house. I knew her family also, because her mother had been an elementary teacher at our school and had my daughter and one son as students. Amanda was a very artistic girl, and used to make my daughter these lovely drawings, and little hand made gifts. Her mom wasRead More →

Submitted by Liz M. I was raised to be a lifelong learner. Our dinner time conversations often led to “let’s look it up”. We had a set of Britannica Encyclopedias, an atlas and many reference books on our bookshelves. I became a nurse partly due to the fact that there were many specialties to choose from and always new research and therapies being developed. One of the reasons I love quilting is because there is always something new to learn! Many different ways to do the same block, binding or quilting technique. Quilters are very generous with their time and skills, sharing what they know.Read More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. You know how it is when you’ve been quilting or sewing for years, you have your own way of doing things, and then you get this inkling, “I wonder if there is a better way to do this?” Or, “Is there anything new out there in the quilting world that I don’t know about?” Well the other day, I was talking to our Program Chair, Rosalie, and she told me that another MPS member, Kathy, had mentioned that she was interested in what other quilters were using these days or what might be their favorite quilting gadgets or notions.  Rosalie andRead More →
