We are proud to announce that our own Lisa Roberts is one of the featured artists in this year’s Portland Open Studios!  She entered the show and was the only fiber artist that was accepted.  The event takes place over the next two weekends (Saturday & Sunday)–October 8-9, and October 15-16 from 10 AM to 5 PM each day. I know, I know—-after the week we just had, it’s very hard to think about wool.  But someone has generously donated A LOT of wool (24 yards, to be exact) to MPS and Mim is going to sell it at our next guild meeting, which is Tuesday, August 23rd.  There are solids, a few plaids, and even some Pendletons.  There are also some “loose” pieces that have already been cut that would be great for embroidery. Mim will be selling this wool for $5 per yard!  Where else can you buy wool that inexpensively?  You can buy anything from half-yard pieces (minimum cut) to whole yards.Read More →

Whew! It’s been a busy summer.  Hard to believe it’s August already… MPS has been busy, too.  Here are a few things that are going on: WE HAVE A WINNER!! Yes, our UFO challenge ended at our July meeting and the winner of over $300 was new member, Teresa Koster.  She completed six projects to get her name in the hat six times.  We had 15 runners-up who also received nice prizes.  Congratulations to Teresa and to everyone who participated in this fun challenge.  It sounds like we’ll be doing this again next year, so you can start thinking about what you’ve got stashed awayRead More →

And we at MPS are very excited about it! Jacquie fell in love with quilting in 2009 after seeing an exhibit of the quilts of Gee’s Bend. Their quirky, almost modern sensibility appealed to her, so she dusted off the sewing skills her mother taught her and set about learning to quilt. Jacquie found the emerging modern quilting movement and worked to develop her own voice and style as a modern quilter.
