This year has been one big celebration here at the Metropolitan Patchwork Society (MPS) as we marked our 25th anniversary! Back in March, we invited everyone—MPS members and anyone else with a passion for sewing—to create some “Wonky Square” blocks. These quirky, playful blocks were to become part of a special quilt project, and as more and more blocks poured in, we soon realized we had something big on our hands. What started as one quilt quickly became four! The design we selected, called Tipsy City Quilt, was chosen by Marcia S and Michelle N from Quilting Modern by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen. Last month, Sara H saw an article in the Oregonian that she thought would be interesting to our MPS Blog followers.  She sent it along to us and we agree that it needs to be shared! The article is about a surprising donation made to the Columbia Gorge Habitat for Humanity’s Restore.  Thankfully, those involved in uncovering the donation knew they were looking at something special.  But you can read the article for yourself.  Just click on the button below. Have you ever made a surprising quilt discovery?  We’d love to hear about it in the comments.Read More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. I know this is super last minute, but I wanted to give any interested party a chance to catch this opportunity. Cascade Composers’ first show of the season features original music by Walter Saul while projecting images of quilts by Ann Harwell, a North Carolina quilt artist, on a large screen.  Here’s an excerpt from the announcement: Saul’s music, by turns playful and joyful, and somber and reflective, brings to life the stories behind Harwell’s art, each artist adding layers to the other’s vision, creating something greater than the sum of its parts. The work, a musical tour of 114 quilts,Read More →
