Back in March of 2011, the American Folk Art Museum presented “Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts”.  The show was held for 6 days at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City.  On the occasion of her 80th birthday, Joanna S. Rose wanted to showcase her collection of 650 red and white quilts and also wanted the exhibit to be free to the public.  Can you imagine such an exhibition? A video was posted by the American Folk Art Museum, and it features Elizabeth V. Warren, who was the curator of the show.  In a short 9-minute video, she talks aboutRead More →

Yes, it’s that time of year again.  There are Gift Guides and Wish Lists everywhere.  Your Social Media Committee thought it would be fun to create a list just for MPS. So we put our heads together and came up with a few things we’d thought you’d enjoy.  Use this as your own personal wish list or gift guide.  Remember, you can always click on an image to get a larger view. We like the Creative Grids Rulers because of their slip-resistant backs and their fine lines that increase accuracy.  RememberRead More →

A number of years ago, a small group of the founding mothers of MPS worked with The old Aurora Colony Museum to coordinate and hang their annual quilt show. The group stayed together and did a second year before handing the reins to a new group of quilters local to Aurora. The Museum is an interesting venue to stage quilts and quilt-related items. We were able to use many of the historical pieces of furniture, equipment and also the museum’s own quilts. It was fun to decorate the Kraus house with quilts on the beds, walls and railings. This is the final weekend for theRead More →

Deb B. has been sewing since she was 10, with her mom as her teacher. She made her first quilt at age 24, but didn’t really get into quilting until her kids were into their teens. She says it was a welcome relief from all that angst! We’re glad to have Deb as a member of our guild and are excited to get to know her better. How long have you been a member of MPS? Almost two years. What is your favorite part of belonging to the guild? All the inspiration from fellow quilters and guest speakers. When you’re not quilting, how do youRead More →

Never Leave Home Without It!

Portable patchwork, mobile stitchery, or quilting-on-the-go… No matter what we call our little take-along handwork projects, we quilters often live by the motto, “never leave home without it!”  Whether waiting in the doctor’s office, traveling on an airplane, or watching a little league game, we quilters take advantage of any downtime away from home with English paper piecing, applique, embroidery, binding, and more. I have a little bag that I grab when I know I’ll have time to work on a favorite hand project. My bag has contained everything from Cathedral Windows blocks that have traveled with me on camping trips and family reunions, to hundreds ofRead More →
