QUILT ALONGS

Submitted by Liz M. Last month, I asked what topics MPS members would enjoy reading about. Thank you for your replies! We have such a variety of interests in the guild which allows us to explore many topics. Many small groups have chosen a pattern and each member selects their fabric and stitches on their own quilt. The result is a group of quilts connected by the pattern but always interesting to see how the choice of fabrics affects the result! The internet has expanded opportunities for quilters to participate in a Quilt Along. It has allowed individuals who may not be involved with aRead More →

(click images for a larger view) I would argue the same could be said for quilting.  That’s why combining a garden show with quilts seems like a natural way to go.  Garden tours are delightful; but when you throw quilts into the mix, the results are wonderful! On Saturday, July 17th, 2021, MPS did just that.  Four members opened their gardens; and many more members offered their quilts to be shown.  The weather was perfect–sunny and blue with a little breeze, and not too hot.  There was excitement in the air as many of us were seeing each other face-to-face for the first time inRead More →

A Wonderful Discovery

Submitted by Naomi Macioce I thought that you would all enjoy this piece. It reminded me of many of our Guild’s recent discussions about folks putting together blocks that had been passed down by relatives, and were now being finished with loving care by our guild members. The challenges of dealing with someone else’s work: strange color schemes, fabric that has lost its integrity, stains, and difficult patterns to decipher are many. However, the sense of purpose, meaning, and re-experiencing the love and care put into these quilts makes them so worthwhile. It also allows the newer generations a window into the past, and theirRead More →

Special thanks to MPS member Neena K. for bringing this to our attention! If you are a fan of Carol Bryer Fallert-Gentry, then you already know that she works out of her Bryerpatch Studio, which is located in Port Townsend, WA.  But did you know that she has an exhibit in our own backyard? Carol is featured in a solo exhibit at the Latimer Quilt and Textile Center in Tillamook, Oregon.  Her show dates are May 3rd through June 27th of this year, and includes most of her recent work. General admission is $4.00 and Seniors aged 62+ pay $3.00. Carol is internationally known forRead More →

Submitted by Liz M. There are many organizations in the US that offer information and history of textiles and quilts. They include resources for researching the quilt history of their state/area, different quilt block patterns, makers and artists. Explore the links below! (The Quilt Index is a very large site.  You may want to watch the instructional video first in order to learn how to search, filter, and find what you are looking for. It’s worth the watch.) Please comment below and add your favorite museums or organizations!Read More →
