Submitted by Dianne McD. Every year, my small group goes on a quilting retreat for three nights in January.  We generally search VRBO or AirBnB to find a house that will work for us.  These are our search parameters in order of importance:  must have enough space for each of us to set up a sewing station (which usually involves moving furniture), must have enough sleeping space (beds preferred, but I slept on an air mattress on the floor once!), must have a decent kitchen for dinner preparation (we take care of ourselves individually for breakfast and lunch). A few weeks ago, an email cameRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. A few months ago, I happened upon this fabric line while perusing an online fabric shop.  I’d never heard of Tilda Fabrics, so I thought I’d learn more about it. Turns out, the fabric brand was created by the Norwegian designer, Tone Finnanger in 1999.  Currently, Tilda Fabrics introduces three design collections a year.  And included in these collections are things like buttons, ribbons, kits and other accessories  The designs are pretty and there are very nice colorways in each collection. But what really caught my eye was all her free patterns.  There are many and they range from easy toRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. Do you journal about your quilts?  I usually take a photo of each of my quilts and store it on my phone or computer, and that’s about as far as it goes.  But that’s about to change. My friend, Christie, gave me a beautiful journal that she’d made.  That’s it in the photo.  For the last few months, I’ve been thinking about how best to put this journal to use.  A couple of weeks ago, I decided that it shall become my Quilt Journal.  How did I come to this decision?  Well, a couple of things inspired me… Last summer, whileRead More →

Submitted by Naomi Macione. Julie Beeler is a scientist, a forager, a very precise technician, a teacher, and a talented fabric artist. She lives up in Washington State, near Trout Lake, and can often be found out in the wilderness with her beautiful mushroom basket, and sweet dog by her side seeking out the very mundane, and very exotic mushrooms nearby, to attain the perfect fabric dyes. She appears as comfortable in her home working on her projects, as she does when foraging in Gifford Pinchot National Forest up near Mt. Adams. This button below provides a very informative article from Oregon Public Broadcasting, alongRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. On April 22, 2023 which also happened to be Earth Day, MPS presented our biannual indoor quilt show at the Beaverton City Library.  We showed many beautiful and interesting quilts and had more than 300 attendees.  Many wandered in from the library and some came over from the Farmer’s Market that was in full swing across the street from the library.  And, of course, we had many of our own friends and family present to see our quilts on display.  We were thrilled to share our quilts with so many members of the community, many of whom are non-quilters.  Our “demonstrators”Read More →
