Submitted by Liz M. Hello all! Have you attended a “virtual” quilt show during our COVID time? I wrote a blog post in December 2020 about the Houston Show going virtual. I attended that show and also the Modern Quilt Guild QuiltCon in February 2021 this year. The Quilters Anonymous Guild in the greater Seattle area is hosting a virtual show and offering it for free! They have done a great job using technology and including a quilt show with multiple exhibits, a vendor mall that showcases interesting demos and also sharing a couple of fun tutorials. Check out the demo to make a chickenRead More →

After the success of our first virtual Quilt College, we decided to do it again. (You can read about the virtual college here.) At our March 2021 Guild Meeting, we held another quilt college with four Guild members sharing information on everything from making Log Cabin blocks by hand to sewing Single-Fold Binding onto a quilt. Have you ever made Welsh Folded Log Cabin (also known as Manx) blocks?  Jean shared the perfect project to take on the road when you can’t be at your sewing machine.  They are pieced by hand on a foundation and require very little in the way of supplies. You’llRead More →

Rosalie, our Program Chair, sent this article to share with you.  Found in The Public Domain Review, this essay describes the history of an unusual but very lovely quilt made by Adeline Harris in the mid-1800’s when she was a young woman. The quilt is part of the collection of American quilts housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We hope you enjoy reading about this quilt.  We think you’ll be inspired by the tenacity of Miss Harris as she embarked on this project. Submitted by Liz M. In 2020, Moda Fabrics held their third quilt along called Moda Blockheads. Fifty-six blocks were created by designers and one block was released every Wednesday. Some designers added alternate blocks to substitute for an appliqué block and several layouts were offered for setting the final blocks. Most block patterns were in your choice of size: 4”, 6”, 8” and 12”. The designers used fabrics they had designed and it was interesting to see the same block in different fabrics. Some quilters stitched each week’s block in two different color ways. Some stitched the first 25 into one quilt with one colorRead More →

Timna Tarr, an award-winning quilter from Massachusetts, says she has a rule for every quilt!  MPS was delighted to have Timna speak to us at our Guild meeting held on February 23rd, 2021.  She came to us virtually through Zoom and treated us to a wonderful trunk show of her quilts as well as insights into how those quilts came to be.  Those MPS members and guests in attendance came away very inspired by what they had seen and learned. If you would like to see Timna’s work, you can visit her website using the button below.  She also has pre-recorded courses available through CourseCraft. Read More →
