“What Was I Thinking?” While standing in front of Marcia S’s at the MPS Outdoor Show, Jean V said to me ‘we could do this’. (Jean says I made the suggestion). Initially the little blocks were fun but after 40 of them, I found myself saying ‘if I sew 5 of these blocks, then I can do something fun’. At just 56 blocks, I set the blocks on point, added solid fabric and called it done.

“My Garden” My Garden was the challenge to Friday Friends. Each quilter made a block to exchange. I assembled my blocks with movement thru the seasons: winter/spring on the left to summer in the center to Fall on the right. I appliquéd 12 circles representing the four seasons. Added a pesty rabbit and berry basket to the quilt. My garden has currants, blueberries and raspberries for picking.

“Joy in Stitches” Buttermilk Basin offered a free Block of the Month in 2022 for a small wall hanging. It is designed with the center oval attached with Velcro to make it changeable. An oval is designed for each month. I decided to just do one oval and appliqué it on. I would work intermittently on the hand appliqué and decorative embroidery and it often got put away for long periods. Glad it is done!

“Old Guys Rule” I won these fabrics at one of our MPS auctions. I calculated making 2 lap size quilts for my father and father-in-law, but they both died before I could give them to them. I designed the quilt and quilted it myself. I used “Walk”, by Jacquie Gering to quilt it. It is at the Clackamas fair in Canby.

“Cool Purples” What do you do when you have been given LOTS of HSTs in purple and win a great VAMPF bundle of cool colors? You make a cuddly hospice quilt. Backed with donated blue minky, it feels comfy as well. Quilting the on point blocks was fun with a simple back and forth wave. Swirling border finished the FMQ.

“Coat of Many Colors” In 2012, when I was going through treatment for cancer, my friend Kathy who lives in Alaska, made me a quilt. She went way out of her comfort zone for this quilt. When I decided to take a Montevilla class on how to turn a quilt into a jacket, I knew this quilt was destined to be something new. Quilted by Kathy Howell.
