“One and Only” This quilt was to demonstrate how to make curves using hand quilting. It was designed to fit in a specific place in my quilting room so it has a Short but fairly long dimension to it. It represents the first and the last time that I will do hand quilting!

“Insanity” Linda Gillins and I saw Marcia Sanderman’s incredible quilt made using these little quilt squares. We were inspired! A bad inspiration as it was an incredible amount of work and we both gave up without finishing all the quilt squares.

“What Was I Thinking?” While standing in front of Marcia S’s at the MPS Outdoor Show, Jean V said to me ‘we could do this’. (Jean says I made the suggestion). Initially the little blocks were fun but after 40 of them, I found myself saying ‘if I sew 5 of these blocks, then I can do something fun’. At just 56 blocks, I set the blocks on point, added solid fabric and called it done.

“My Garden” My Garden was the challenge to Friday Friends. Each quilter made a block to exchange. I assembled my blocks with movement thru the seasons: winter/spring on the left to summer in the center to Fall on the right. I appliquéd 12 circles representing the four seasons. Added a pesty rabbit and berry basket to the quilt. My garden has currants, blueberries and raspberries for picking.

“Summer Garden” Summer garden started as a block swap with my small group. The additional block patterns were gathered from mostly online resources. Lots of paper pieced blocks. Coming up with your own design for a quilt requires more brain work than I anticipated.

“A Summer Garden” Members of our small quilt group each made 7 copies of a personally selected pattern about a garden. We each got one block from everyone, designed our own quilt and all included the same yellow fabric somewhere in the quilt. We loved comparing our finished quilts!

“Joy in Stitches” Buttermilk Basin offered a free Block of the Month in 2022 for a small wall hanging. It is designed with the center oval attached with Velcro to make it changeable. An oval is designed for each month. I decided to just do one oval and appliqué it on. I would work intermittently on the hand appliqué and decorative embroidery and it often got put away for long periods. Glad it is done!Lisa "Joy in Stitches"

“Papa’s Quilt” This quilt was made in 1996 for my dad. The top was made solely using a serger. I didn’t have a sewing table so it was done sitting on the floor. I cut my finger while sewing this quilt, so this whole process included a trip to the ER.

“Old Guys Rule” I won these fabrics at one of our MPS auctions. I calculated making 2 lap size quilts for my father and father-in-law, but they both died before I could give them to them. I designed the quilt and quilted it myself. I used “Walk”, by Jacquie Gering to quilt it. It is at the Clackamas fair in Canby.

“Cool Purples” What do you do when you have been given LOTS of HSTs in purple and win a great VAMPF bundle of cool colors? You make a cuddly hospice quilt. Backed with donated blue minky, it feels comfy as well. Quilting the on point blocks was fun with a simple back and forth wave. Swirling border finished the FMQ.

“Summer’s Smile” I loved this huge sunflower and it does make me smile (especially, now the quilt is finished). It was a lot of work. I won’t attempt another Ann Shaw design again!! It was hung just in time for National Sunflower Day, August 2nd.

“Block Step” This quilt is for my granddaughter who is due to be born in September. My daughter in law favors modern quilt designs, hence the front. I needed it to look like a baby quilt, hence the back. Quilted by Teresa Koster.

Marcia Sanderman

This was the third quilt I made from my polka dot fabrics. Still have more dots to make one or two more. I quilted this with my embroidery module.

“In Among the Trees” The center panel came from the free table at a guild meeting. The panel was beautiful appliqué and deserved to be finished. I added the borders and did the free motion quilting. This will also be donated to Lullaby Quilts.

“Coat of Many Colors” In 2012, when I was going through treatment for cancer, my friend Kathy who lives in Alaska, made me a quilt. She went way out of her comfort zone for this quilt. When I decided to take a Montevilla class on how to turn a quilt into a jacket, I knew this quilt was destined to be something new. Quilted by Kathy Howell.
