First Quilt-Double Stars

I went to a quilt show at the Portland Expo Center in the late 90’s and saw this pattern. I used a homespun for the background and I added a 1″ border to stabilize the star points due to raveling tendency. I used shears to cut the fabric (I am not sure rotary cutters were common yet). My Mom knew of the hand-quilting group at the Tualatin Senior Center from a relative and suggested having them quilt it. I love the quilting they did. It took them 6 months.

This quilt measures 62″ x 77″. Pattern is by Susan Dyer and Nancy Raschka-Reeves. Quilted by the Tualatin Senior Center hand-quilting group.

Later Quilt-Layer Cake Custard

I found a gorgeous layer cake at Miki’s booth at the Festival of Quilts last fall. It was the first layer cake I have ever purchased and I had no idea on a quilt design. I was at a retreat and someone suggested looking for a pattern online. The Fat Quarter Shop has a dozen or more free patterns for a layer cake. This one was so quick. Only took a day to piece the top. I use it for my TV watching lap quilt unless my husband snags it first. Quilted using Hobbs wool batting and edge to edge design.

This quilt measures 63″ x 88″. Free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. Fabric is Kansas Troubles Wheatland by Moda.

Favorite Quilt-Stars Upon Stars

I started this at a class taught by Joyce Geiszler. It took me 15 months to piece the top. My quilting friends helped with the color choices. I would send photos of options for their opinions. This quilt has MANY “Y” seams and I had to mark the intersections to get aligned. Very tedious.

This quilt measures 64″ x 74″. Pattern by Edya Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts.

  1. Lisa, I can see why “Stars Upon Stars” is your favorite quilt. All that work really paid off in the end. I like that your friends colab’d for the fabric choices. Hope to see it in person at the meeting. Michele Nichols
