As you may or may not have heard, Nancy Zieman passed away this last Tuesday morning from cancer.  Her show, “Sewing with Nancy,” was the longest running sewing show on television.  She also founded “Nancy’s Notions” which started as a small business in her home over thirty years ago.  I think many of us can find at least one notion in our sewing supplies that came from her company. Way back in January of 2015, two MPS small groups decided to join forces and work on a project together.  The members of the group, “Threads of Friendship” and the group, “Quilters on the Edge” entered the planning stages of their “Tula” project which was to begin in April.  The project was based around the book, “Tula Pink’s City Sampler: 100 Modern Quilt Blocks”.  The project was outlined as follows: From a pool of pre-arranged colors, each of the 12 members would be assigned one color. Boxes and Emeralds

Last week, Colleen Wise spoke to our Guild at the June meeting.   She talked about her journey into quilting, some of the “cheats” she has developed over time, and how perfection isn’t exactly our friend when it thwarts our creativity.  This was followed by an inspiring trunk show of quilts. MPS Mystery Quilts

Back in July of 2016, MPS began a Mystery Quilt project.  The name of the project was “9-Patch Over-Under Mystery Quilt” by Susan C. Druding.  Each month, we revealed one or two clues to the project with the final clue being revealed in January.  Several of our quilters participated and the Grand Reveal was held this last April at our monthly meeting. On April 25, 2017, Robin Long presented her program, “The Many Uses of the Mariner’s Compass”, during the MPS Guild meeting.  Wow!  While Robin was speaking and showing us the many beautiful quilts she created using her method of strip piecing, the room was becoming super-charged by the rising level of energy.  Many members became inspired to try something new and her April 26th workshop sold out on the spot.
