And we’re thrilled! Once upon a time, in 1999, 14 women, who loved quilting, gathered in someone’s living room and wondered if Beaverton, Oregon could support a quilting guild.  Many of them belonged to other quilting guilds in the Portland area; but the guilds were large and the women thought a smaller guild might offer a better opportunity for camaraderie and inspiration. They also wanted to have something closer to home. After their initial meeting, they decided to move forward with a new guild.  Flyers were posted in quilt shops and word spread in the old fashioned way–by word of mouth.  They procured the communityRead More →

Submitted by Liz M. Happy Fall everyone! Greetings to our new MPS guild members and welcome back to our ongoing members. Marcia, our new chair for 2019, invited members to create a personalized name tag to use at our guild meetings and events.  Name tags can be a wonderful conversation starter!   Will your name tag reflect your favorite colors? Your favorite fabric genre? Your love for appliqué or piecing?  What style do you prefer? Lanyard or pin? Favorite shape-square, rectangular, hexies? Do you like a place to display your collection of pins related to sewing and quilting? Below are links to tutorials for nameRead More →

Metropolitan Patchwork Society (MPS) held their bi-annual quilt show on March 16, 2019 at the Beaverton Library.  It coincided with National Quilt Day and the Challenge theme was “Books”.  (You can click on any of the pictures to see a larger image). The one-day show was free and drew about 350 people, mainly from the Farmer’s Market and the Library patrons.  Many attendees had never seen a quilt show and there were lots of positive comments! The quilts were amazing and showed the variety of interests the guild supports: traditional, modern, art, group challenges, comfort quilts and Quilts of Valor. Guild members hung ~75 quiltsRead More →

The current Website Committee decided to change our name to better describe what we do.  So we are now officially the MPS Social Media Committee. We have a Facebook account and an Instagram account.  Just use “metropatchquilts” in the Search box for both accounts and you’ll see some of our latest postings.  You can choose to follow us and then you’ll never miss a thing. So who is this Social Media Committee?  Well, I’m glad you asked! Hopefully, you’ve noticed more activity on our MPS Blog.  That’s due to two new writers who are excited to bring you quilting information. Barbara S. is a fairlyRead More →

When Marcia C. isn’t quilting, she loves to travel. Here she is in Ireland last year. Another fun fact about Marcia is that she has lots of browns but very few yellows and oranges in her fabric stash! Today, we’re happy to share some tidbits about Marcia and her quilting adventures. How long have you been quilting? About 20 years. Who taught you to quilt?  I taught myself, although as a child I watched my grandmother quilt by hand on a frame in her living room. Every grandchild was gifted a quilt from her when we graduated from high school. I took my first quilting classRead More →
