What are you doing this Saturday?  How about hitting one or more of the 16 independent quilt shops that are participating in this season’s Sunshine and Stitches Shop Hop?  The shop hop starts this weekend! MPS member, Deb Messina sent us one of the S & S Shop Hop newsletters and it’s packed with all kinds of information about this season’s event.  You’ll find out which shops are participating, about the shop hop “Memory Quilt”, and a list of all the prizes available to some lucky quilters.  And, if you want, you will also have the ability to subscribe to the Shop Hop newsletter and be up to dateRead More →

MPS will be featuring its annual Quilt College this coming Tuesday, May 24th, at 6:30 PM.  Our quilting professors are all lined up, and they have chosen their subject matter for the mini-courses.  The rest of us will be divided into four learning groups, and over the course of the evening, we will be given the opportunity to attend each class. This year, our teaching staff includes Judy Liebo, Marcia Sanderman, Bette King, and Carolyn Bahrman. They are a talented group of quilters, and the class participants can expect to gain knowledge and great inspiration from these courses. Of course, that’s not all the evening hasRead More →

Sidnee is an artist who uses fabric and fiber as her medium, and who, in 2007, developed her own unique method of applique to make quilts.  Using her photographs, computer processing software, fabric and free-motion sewing, she creates beautiful art quilts.  While her earlier art quilts were more traditional and abstract in design, she considers her current work to be more representational of what she sees in her photos. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art shows around the country as well as internationally.  Some of her quilts are part of individual private collections.   She was featured in an episode of Oregon Art Beat, which is aRead More →

When you see the MPS Organizational Philosophy, you’ll find the first sentence reads: The founding board envisioned a guild that would provide members with opportunities for friendship, fellowship, education and sharing in an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork. Community Service was not mentioned there because the founding mothers did not want it to be the main focus of the guild. But as I’ve been getting to know our MPS members, I’m finding that many, many of them are involved in some area of service. Lots of charity quilts are being produced from within our ranks! Some are “Quilts of Valor” for our state and national veterans, others are infantRead More →

That’s right.  Only 4 days!  Tuesday, March 22nd is the night of the big event.  Hope you’re gathering your dollar bills or digging around to find your checkbook.  We’ll also have a credit card reader there if that is more convenient for you.  The bidding begins at 6:00PM. While we’re bidding, we’ll fit in dinner and do a tiny bit of business.  There will be more than 100 items spread around the room waiting for our bids.  We thought we’d share more photos of a few of them. (Click on them for a larger view.) Because this is such a busy night, we will not have our usualRead More →
