Betsy Sayre

An Early Quilt

Betsy was inspired by an article in a 1982 issue of Quilter’s Newsletter, and thought that she could do the same thing. This log cabin quilt with a non-traditional edge is made from muted fabrics with lots of blues for the centers. She hand-quilted this quilt and it lived a good long time on a bed in her home.

Another Early Quilt

In 1987, Betsy moved on to use bright colors in her quilts. She hand-quilted this quilt and sewed in significant names, dates, and sayings that were important to her at the time. This quilt is queen-sized.

Another Log Cabin

This quilt was inspired by a quilt Betsy had seen at the Houston quilt show. The artist, who was German, was a featured quilter there; and she was known for making quilts in silk. Betsy gathered silks and other “fancy” fabrics and put together this beautiful quilt. She especially likes the movement, depth, and texture of this quilt. And it shimmers!

Quilts Inspired by Betty Busby’s Style

These quilts feature lots of “cut outs” and hand-painted silks to create movement and energy. Betsy took classes from Betty Busby and learned how to paint on the fabrics and use them to create a glow from behind the cut outs.
