Submitted by Dianne McD. Every time I hear someone say “You need to move out of your comfort zone…”, I want to gnash my teeth.  I’ve set up housekeeping in my comfort zone and I’m very happy there, thank you very much! On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, MPS hosted Frances Arnold as our speaker for the evening.  She spoke to us on the “Challenge of Challenges” and took us along on the journey of her challenge quilts beginning in the 1980’s to her latest quilt that was accepted in the 2023 Quilt Con show.  Before she began, she shared this quote from Richie Norton: It’sRead More →

It’s been said that when looking for creative sparks of inspiration in our artwork, we should branch out from the medium we use and explore other artists and their artistic mediums.  MPS member Dawn W sent us some information about an exhibit in Portland that just might fit such an exploration. The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at PSU is presenting an exhibit called “Weaving Data”.  The exhibit runs from January 24th to April 29th of 2023 and admission to the museum is free.  This exhibit explores the relationship between computing and weaving.  Did you know that the Jacquard weaving process used a form ofRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. I subscribe to the quilting publication called Quiltfolk.  It’s a beautiful magazine full of photos of quilts and quilters. I especially enjoy it because there are no advertisements in the magazine.  It’s issued quarterly, and each magazine focuses on one of our country’s states and the quilters that live there. Way back in October, I got my Issue No. 24 which was all about South Dakota.  Because the last three months were extraordinarily busy for me, I just recently got around to looking at it.  On page 9, there was the editorial letter that was written this time by Lauren DeLuca,Read More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. I got Robin Long’s newsletter last week.  She’s the owner of Robin Ruth Designs and the creator of those very fun Fat and Skinny Robin rulers. She had just returned from the International Quilt Festival where she had a vendor booth.  Besides telling us about all the fun she had at the show, she shared a link to the results of a survey taken to forecast the state of the quilting industry.  I generally don’t give a hoot about surveys (or polls, for that matter), but I found these results kind of interesting. According to the small print,  the survey wasRead More →
