Many fabric brands are now carrying their own solid fabrics to work with the other fabrics in their lines of quilting cottons.   I think it’s a brilliant idea.  However, not all solid fabrics are the same weight, texture, feel, etc. Christie F found this article from “Stitched in Color” and thought it would be good to share with the rest of our readers. In this blog, Rachel Hauser lists the different solid fabric lines and compares them with each other.  It’s an informative article, and we think you’ll find it helpful. Did you know that there is an All Pacific Northwest Shop Hop beginning today?  I didn’t!  But I haven’t been paying much attention to the world around me. This shop hop runs from April 1 through May 31, 2025 and features many quilt and fabric stores throughout all of Oregon and Washington.  You can find a shop hop magazine at any participating shop.  The magazine contains maps, free patterns, passports, and everything else you need to get going. Of course, you can find these things online, too; and you can get there by clicking on the button below. Our own MPS member, Deb Messina, designedRead More →

Do you Doomscroll?  To be honest, I didn’t even know what doomscrolling was until a few months ago; but once I found out, I had to admit that I was guilty of it sometimes. Our MPS Chairperson, Ruth, sent this article to us to let us know how important our quilting hobby is to our general well-being.  It’s from the “Greater Good” magazine and we hope you’ll find it interesting and perhaps validating.  You can read the article by clicking the button below. What about you?  Do you have good techniques for keeping yourself present in the moment?  Let us know in the comments below.Read More →

Submitted by Linda G (after a trip to Hawaii). Have you ever traveled and discovered an unexpected little gem? This delightfully happened to me with an impromptu visit to Iolani Palace in Honolulu.   And the delight was in discovering “The Queen’s Quilt” displayed in the room where Queen Lili’uokalani was held prisoner. Intriguing story? Here’s a brief history of the events that resulted in the making of a beautiful piece of history and art.  In 1893, Queen Lili’uokalani sought to reinstate the rights of the “sovereign” and the “people” that had been stripped by the 1887 Bayonet Constitution.  In response, a small group of whiteRead More →
