MPS member Jean Kelly, who is also a member of the Portland Modern Quilt Guild, is Queen of the UFOs, a designation she earned at the PMQG’s December meeting last night. Vickie completed the quilt in 2013 and displayed it for the first time in March at the Metropolitan Patchwork Society’s 2015 quilt show, where it caught the eye of local quilt historian and author Bill Volckening. July Meeting Highlight: Karla Alexander’s Trunk Show

Karla Alexander was the featured speaker at the July 28 MPS meeting. Karla, who lives in Salem, is a nationally known quilt designer, author, teacher, and designer of specialty rulers. Her patterns are available under the name Saginaw Street Quilt Company. MPS members were treated to a trunk show featuring many of the quilts pictured in her eight books, including her latest book Stack, Shuffle and Slide: A New Technique for Stack the Deck Quilts (That Patchwork Place, 2014).
