Submitted by Liz M. Do you use a certain fabric or group of fabrics to create your quilts? Or, do you use your scraps to begin your work? Do you select the pattern or the fabrics first? Every quilter does things their own way. I am working to use some of my stash this year. As I was tidying my fabrics, I came across a yard of an Alison Glass print that I purchased because I loved it. Did I have a quilt in mind when I bought it? No, but it was blue and different than most fabrics I had. I paired it withRead More →

Submitted by Liz M. Happy New Year! Do you need a new project? Several designers are offering free block programs this year. Remember you can make some or all of the blocks, mix and mingle, add some to existing UFO projects, create a pillow or runner rather than a full quilt. Do you know of other BOM or quilt alongs? Have you participated in one before? Any tips for quilters who have not tried one before? Please share in the comments below!  Read More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. Getting to see and hear presentations from the many talented people in the quilting world is one of the best perks of belonging to a guild.  On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, MPS was fortunate to have such a person.   Patricia Belyea, co-owner of Okan Arts, presented “Spirit Quilts: When a Quilt is More Than a Quilt”.  During her talk, she lead us through her process of making four quilts that she had been commissioned to create.  She told us about how she came by the fabrics for each quilt, and about the design decisions that were made as she created theRead More →

Timna Tarr, an award-winning quilter from Massachusetts, says she has a rule for every quilt!  MPS was delighted to have Timna speak to us at our Guild meeting held on February 23rd, 2021.  She came to us virtually through Zoom and treated us to a wonderful trunk show of her quilts as well as insights into how those quilts came to be.  Those MPS members and guests in attendance came away very inspired by what they had seen and learned. If you would like to see Timna’s work, you can visit her website using the button below.  She also has pre-recorded courses available through CourseCraft. Read More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. Way back in January of 2020, when the world was still normal, our Chair elect Linda, presented a challenge to all of us during our Guild meeting.  Our challenge was to create a quilt that was 20″ x 20″ made from 20 fabrics that were pulled from our stash in 20 minutes.  It sounded like great fun! The grand Reveal of the 2020 Challenge Quilts was set for our Guild meeting on November 24th, 2020. Little did we see then what was barreling down the tracks towards our community. Between January and the end of November, we had experienced a world-wideRead More →
