Submitted by Dianne McD. “I forget how much talent we have within our guild,” I said as we were preparing for the MPS Outdoor Quilt Show.  On Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 and under the leadership of Linda H, 75 quilts were being unfolded and hung between the trees in the Evelyn Schliffler Memorial Park in Beaverton, Oregon.  It was early (we started at 7:00 AM) and the area was still quiet with the occasional-and curious-dog walker passing by.  As we hung the quilts and sometimes moved them from one place to another, one could tell this was going to be a good show. Submitted by Christie Frey. Sometimes the smallest thing can motivate.  Recently I was taking a quilting class at Sisters Quilters Affair.  The class was a Tula Pink Mystery class.  At the start of class, Tula said “Some of you will get this quilt top completed in class today.”  “Some of you” – the challenge was delivered, and my naturally competitive spirit kicked in…I want to be one of the “some.” At about the 1:30 hour of class, an additional carrot for completion was added.  One of the gals in the class was an employee at the Stitchin Post.  She had several store samples of fabricRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. A few weeks ago, Metropatch was contacted by the Friends of Hopewell House. They are looking for comfort quilts for the rooms of their hospice facility, which is opening this coming fall.  Jill Citro is the Comfort Quilt Program coordinator for the house, and she has sent the following information about what they need: For the past 30 years, Hopewell House, located in the Southwest Hills in Portland, helped thousands of individuals and their loved ones navigate with grace through one of the most profound times in their lives — death and dying. In the fall of 2019, Legacy, who ownedRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. A few months ago, the Quilt Alliance came to our attention; and we thought our members would enjoy learning about the QA, too. So what is it?  In their own words, Quilt Alliance is a nonprofit 501c3 organization established in 1993 with a mission to document, preserve, and share our American quilt heritage by collecting the rich stories that historic and contemporary quilts, and their makers, tell about our nation’s diverse peoples and their communities. It’s an active organization and the list of founding mothers may look a little familiar to you, especially if you’ve been quilting for awhile. (You’ll findRead More →

Dear Maya, Thanks!

Submitted by Dianne McD. A few weeks ago, Cydney G sent me this quote by Maya Angelou and thought it was share-worthy: “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” How many times have you heard someone say, “Oh, I’m not creative.”  Have you said it?  I spent a good part of my life believing that about myself because I couldn’t draw like my sister or brother or my best friend.  As I got older, I learned otherwise: In the mid-1980’s, I was a young mother of two babies and a toddler and living in a split-entry house in Gresham,Read More →
